LEGO Movie 70800 Getaway Glider

The Getaway Glider is one of the smallest sets in this roundup, at 103 parts. It is now selling at Amazon, eBay and LEGO Shop for $13.

You can see my Bricksafe page for the full set of photos used in this review.

Box Contents

The box measures 15.5cm x 14 cm x 4.5cm. Inside the box we have:

  • 1 Instruction Booklet
  • Sticker Sheet
  • 1 x Horse
  • 2 x plastic bags

There are three minifigs included, which actually make up a decent percentage of the overall parts you get!

Of course we have Emmet, our unsuspecting hero of the movie. There has been much speculation about the pack on his back (I still have no idea what it's supposed to be). But as you can see below it's just a 1x1x2 brick with a stud hole in a non-standard location, attached to his neck with a thin bracket part.

The other two minifigs are Sheriff Not-a-robot and Deputron, both of which are cool looking robot-cowboys. I believe the Sheriff's hat and mustache are new parts, but it's hard for me to get excited over minifig accessories that are not usable elsewhere :)

New Parts

You can check out the full inventory here. Other than the hat/mustache, there is of course Emmet's pack. Also, the standard Wide Brim Lone Ranger Hat is new in Reddish Brown.

The build was quick and easy. However, it is extremely delicate. The weather vane sticking out of the barrel at the back of the glider is attached with a single technic 1/2 pin into the bottom tube of a round plate. It comes off extremely easily. The other weakness was Emmet's connection to the glider. The bottom of his backpack sticks into a single studded plate. However, I found that this caused Emmet to detach from his backpack constantly.

I was getting constantly annoyed with the various parts breaking off while trying to take photos of this set. For anyone actually trying to play with it, it must be even more annoying.

I think the minifigures are the only really interesting part of this set (all right, who are you and what have you done with the real Nathan?).

But selling at $13, you can't expect much anyway :)

There are also some great videos of each set on the LEGO site. The following video can be found on the LEGO product page for this set, which shows you what the scene is actually all about:

It is called the piece of resistance. Something about not being able to get it to connect with other pieces so the bad guy can glue it together with others.

Thanks :) Where did you find that out?

I been following thus for a while now. Been reading up about it thru feeds I find on www.reddit.com/r/lego and other places. There is also a polybag set well 3 actually coming out for the movie. The piece of resistance is what one of them is called.

I knew already what the theme of the movie was so I googled it and boom I was right.

On an unrelated note can you enlighten me why there are no city or super hero sets in the database. I got most of them and just joined your site and wanted to add them. I use this site to keep track of my sets for insurance purposes. Then did an approximate value thru another site after I exported my tsv file.

Really cant thank you guys enough for this site. Really helps keep track.

I added it under sets missing from database.

Thank you very much if you need pics of the boxes or of parts lists I can get it for you.
