I finally finished something I've been meaning to do for a long time – improve the search features. I have basically replaced the existing set and part searches with a single page which I hope is simpler to use and produces far better results.

Some of the key features:

  • Improved performance of searches
  • Searches through more fields than previously (e.g. now includes MOC description text)
  • Cleaner and easier to use interface which also works well on tablets (I finally got an iPad!)
  • The more advanced search/filtering options are still available if needed, but the main search is powerful enough to avoid them most of the time
  • Rank search results by “closeness” to the search terms
  • Provides more flexibility in search terms, e.g. 1×1 works just as well as 1 x 1

I have to be a partypopper but the "Part" search functionality seem to be broken now. I can only search for sets.

    okay few more ideas

    1) Add a unchecked checkbox for including the Minifig/Accessories as required. Some sets don't make sense without them.

    2) when you open a Set from the Build search, why isn't there a Add this to my sets, like it is when you just search Sets. Shouldn't those two pages be the same?

    3) when adding a set to your sets, can you have a option to remove the parts from the spare parts at the same time. (ie transfer them from spare inventory to set inventory) (for big loot buyers)

Minifigs and their accessories will eventually be in every set by default. I'm currently going through every set [and that's about 7500 sets, a huge amount] adding missing figs and breaking all minifigs down into hips/legs, torsos and heads etc. This will allow you to make your own minifigs from existing parts without pulling arms, legs and hands off. As figures are part of the set and are interchangeable parts-wise this makes sense. It will take a while though, as Rebrickable didn't track minifigs and their constituent parts, which is understandable as they aren't as important as 'normal' bricks for the main purpose of this site.

Good! Tumbs up! I never understod the minifig seperation, they are parts and you never remove the arms, hands or leg from the main piece it will break the parts in a very short time. You only seperate torso, head, pants an whatever it got on the head. They are parts like everything else. minifigs as a collectable is just boring,LEGO should be built with, that what make it great. You can barely build with minifigs, okay they might give you an idea what to build as your next MOC.

If you see any sets with minifigs listed as city247 for example, those figs are NOT parts, I am breaking them all as described above. If you see any with no figs or figs parts listed let me know and I'll fix them before I do the other sets with figs already listed. It will take a good while though! Torsos and hip and leg assemblies will always have part numbers that end in cXX. The c denotes a complete assembly. Cannon assemblies, minifig jacks, hips/legs and torso/arms/hands [and anything else that ends XXXcXX] are all listed here as complete assemblies, even though you could break them down further it doesn't make a lot of sense to do so.

LEGO Set 3714-1 - Bricklayer Oscar Orangutan, is for example completed if you only own 4 yellow 1x2 bricks.
if you go searching for the set you can see that it got 3 minifigs parts, but got -3 other parts. which kind of made me assume you where pulling them from the match making.

Another example is sw117promo-1 Darth Vader Polybag but that looks to me as a solid minifig. but to claim to have it 100% without the minifig make no sense.

First of all. it's a really nice functionality, but I lack two features to make it really good.

Could you improve this feature, so I can setup and use my own profiles search filter settings as default. ie instead of having 1990 - 2013 as default, I could setup my profile to use 1950-1995 which is more or less the range my current lego collection covers.

Also could you add the ability to exclude my own sets from the search list. Right now I actually have to add all my own sets to the ignore list. I thought the idea with the search was to find new things to build not list all the old things you already have built.

The default search filter is an idea I might implement. However, you are mistaking the purpose of this search. It's just a generic search page to find any set/moc/part. You are talking about the building functionality which you access from the Build menu item - this does indeed ignore your sets.

hmm it seem to work now. maybe there was some kind of cache/sync miss or something, it didn't react when I had added a new set to my collection. Okay scratch the last feature a minor miss in data sync. I can live with. My collection won't change that much from a day to day basis. I have a hugh task just to make a inventory of it.
