First of all you probably end up with part problems, most alternative brands has their own parts that doesn't have a counter part in Lego. if you make a MOC that is inspired by another brand you will be fine. even if you get very close to ripping it completely off.
if you do the exact same model make sure you alter the instruction flow and don't sell the result. ie post it for free and be honest that it's a copy/based of "brand X set no Y.
There shouldn't be any problems since your not profiting from their trademark.

You actually don't need to have the set as own to run a build check with it as long as the number of sets are three or less you can manually enter them in the process. So that can be used if you just want to know what else you can build if you get another set or two without committing to buying them.

Well then go around looking for something like this: https://za.rs-online.com/web/p/compression-springs/0751499/ it might not be exactly the right spring but should do the trick. Should be possible to buy in a local hobby store or hardware store.

Imo we do not need more specific badges, badges should not influence what people build period. it should be more of an encouragement to build anything instead of doing nothing to get an active community.

Well I must assume you can download a instruction you bought more than ones, so maybe someone did.

biodreamer got a reaction from Simon in Price Guide suggestion
    https://rebrickable.com/blog/187/review-30340-1-emmets-piece-offering/#comments
When it comes to that hidden price guide,Shouldn't it just track changes in price. ie if the price remain same don't do a entry, and limit the number of data points to 100 (3+ months worth of changes). That way all sets will have data in that field even if they are rare and barely sold. (as long as one set has bee sold since the feature started monitor the channels) That is the problem with bricklinks price guide data is flushed after 6 months, so if you find a rare sets you won't know what it's worth.
if a set is unavailable put it down to zero, so we can see not only value but availability. ie when did the last set sell and how long did it takes for it to sell at that price

Check current topics in: https://rebrickable.com/help/ and keep an eye out for new entries, in this case check the MOC session and the tool you used to design with.

Which still doesn't cover the part I want help with.the planning and execution of  the dynamic growth
I don't want my collection fragmented more than necessary so I have columns dedicated to categories, trying to keep the same color within the drawer boundaries as possible.
so for example right now, I have enough black bricks to take up 53 cells ie one drawer is full (32)l + 21 cells in the next. The remaining 11 cells are occupied with other less common colors.
I also got 9 new cells worth of drawer of black bricks to add here: So when I execute that move I end up with 32 + 30 cells occupied by black but I also need to find the best spot for those 11 cells that get evicted in that move and find a good candidate for the remaining 2 cells. Since I don't want more fragmentation than necessary.
this means that each operation will affect minimum two drawers and can ripple affect over much more. and I have very little room for empty cells so that is kept to a minimum.
And every time I get more parts, I will end up getting multiple growth and or shrink operation like this which is causing a pain to keep labels and inventory position up to date.

And I don't know of any software that does this kind of operations on physical storage. (only harddrives)

biodreamer got a reaction from Simon in Highlight current color in Part summary: My parts
That is not what he is saying: he want the "dark brown" column in the table to be highlighted in this case. (since he open a dark brown part) so he quickly spot that he got 4 of them and don't have to try to spot it among other similar colors like reddish brown which you might need to mouse over to see the difference between.
or why not add a extra row above "You have 474 of this part in 15 colors" saying "You have 4 of this parts in Dark Brown" which means you don't even have to look in the table...

biodreamer got a reaction from Vokhev in Part out sets should manage to flag sets correctly when it comes to spare parts
I think the easiest and best way for this is if it combine a set it will only do the complete set and/or the complete spare parts and flag the set according to if it successfully manage to do the spare parts or not. I should be able to trust that no "spare parts" are created in my parts list from thin air.

biodreamer reacted to Simon in Universal joint and Transmission link, aren't they the same?
Folks, I have had a lot fun with this, and looking at end result, knowing that this is done by several people from different parts of the world, I am really content with it, and I believe that this kind of images are a great help for many thousands of Rebrickable users.
I want to do a lot more of these images, and for most, I have the same problem as I had with this one; that is, I have one or two parts I need for the image, but I don't have one or two others.
So next week, I will create a new thread in Other Data, entitled "Part Comparison Images", and start posting images there for which I need your help. With this kind cooperation, we can create great images together.
    Thank you all!

biodreamer got a reaction from Pal in Global part notes
As long as the detailed notes remain I have no problem adding alternative notes on each higher level for these kind of notes. Because you usually start out with category sorting then part sorting then part + color sorting  as the collection grows. It's good to support all sizes of collections.

biodreamer got a reaction from Nickram in Lego digital designer Alternatives?
If you go through that trouble why not attach it to the MOC, they can have multiple instructions sets and I can't imagine any author mind that assuming it's a free MOC and it's attached to their MOC entry.

biodreamer got a reaction from Filhip in Add optional photo upload in the submit part process
I had photos ready for my new part submits but couldn't submit them at the same time, looks like I have to wait for the part to be approved before I can submit photos. That is very inefficient an it doesn't give the admin all the information to base a new mold or print entry on. Would be good if I could upload at least one photo during this process.

For anyone keeping score, this comment thread has likely made me a rebrickable evangelist for life!

Okay, I will see if I can get some time to do some really old parts and mold, but I hope Nathan fix that color page to include only secondary image of that color.

Also when it comes to stickers and sticker sheets, paper, some cloth I would use a scanner if possible rather than a camera. They really don't need an angle or 3D effect..
