My (Sons) 7 Kilos Of Legos

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I bought to my son *for myself* 7 kilos of Legos. My son *I* would like to build correct sets out of them. Where to start?

tmp_8311-20160723_1008482109135866.jpg

I think it's best way is first to recognize some parts. But I don't have a clue. I started with Google: lego dragon. Nice try...

My son *I* hope here is also some kind of space sh** in here...

Is there a professional lego masters in internet who would help me? Do the masters recognize the sets from one piece?

Thanks! :)

First step is always a rough sorting. ie go through the pile and remove any none lego (Mega blocks and other clone bricks as well as playmobile and other toys), put bricks in one pile, plates in one and so forth, and finally the odd looking pieces in one.

after that sort you can do one of two things , 1) try to figure out what piece one of the printed or weird looking pieces is and look up the few sets it comes and compare it to the rest of the pieces in the piles. if a match is found build that set. or 2) simply input all pieces into rebrickable an let it handle the finding of sets. (very slow start but you will also find out if your missing pieces before roaming around trying to find them)

1st method is best for people who doesn't know the bricks well, while the second might be more suitable for experience catalogers.

That Dragon is from: 7255-1

That spaceship thingie is from: 7251-1/tf05-1

That 42060 is from: 4770-1

That orange long piece, lime panel, and full plastic tires are from: 7705-1

That blue chassis with yellow wheels are from: 4567-1

Anyway, i don't know if there are full parts that can build correct sets. I just help from what sets. Can you put more specific picture, not just lying on the floor (that connected)

Thanks for the quick reply. We are going home tomorrow and will start the sorting. Lets get this in order so my son can play with these... without correct order he would not have fun... right?

And I want (atleast try) to learn how to recognize correctly these sets. I believe we *I* are going to buy this kind of boxes more in the future. I paid 50 euros for these 7 kilos... what you get with 50 euros from the shop? Half of "Millenium Falcon for dummies".

Is it hard to get the missing parts if and when we have to find new parts?

If any possible we would like to try get the full sets. We like to collect so "the chase is better than the catch... how much is the fish"... or how the famous singer ones wrote.

Too new lego for me. early half of 2000. Early Starwars and Mars mission sets and such. Recognizing individual parts here, is currently out of my comfort zon. If you buy a couple decades older Lego lots I can help. ;)

Thanks for answering anyway. :) You think this is the best place to get help for regonizing? KamalMYafi is my only one at the moment... but I think he is quite good at this... I hope he still is.

You will find many more experts who love this kind of challenge at bricklink.  Your new pictures are good enough to get you some help.

Our family was going through a tough financial time when these sets came out, so I don't have the hands on experience with them either.

I do recognize some vehicle bases that look like racers.  If you type in "racerbase' in rebrickable's Search you might find the sets they belong to.

Thanks again for all the help!

Now the pieces are in some kind of order. So, if I would like to see what parts I have for example Lego 7251.

Should I get the list below and check what can I find? And if I don't find it, I make somekind of wantlist in somewhere? :D

Okay, I made a quick check with the set 7251. I used this list:

I believe that I will find more pieces to this set later, because it was my first time to organize Legos. I didn't really know what I was doing when I started. This is the list of pieces that I am missing in the set 7251 at the moment:

30157

3684

55300

55299

My suggestion is

Create a private MOC.

Add those parts you listed above.

Then as you discover other parts you are missing from other sets, add them too.

That way when you are completely finished, you will have one "shopping list". One list will save you time and money by using the Multi-Buy feature at rebrickable.

Hi and thank you. If I do this one "shopping list", can I make groups under that "shopping list"? I mean, can I make like headliners there: Lego 7251, Lego xxxx etc?

You can do that if you build wish lists directly on bricklink. or at least you could do that before the site upgrade, I haven't used the site after due to it forgetting my auto login and my collection space is full, having no room for additional orders., not sure how brickowl is handling it, I haven't used that site yet.

There have been numerous complaints about the bricklink wanted list since the update.  I haven't used it or brickowl's wishlist myself, so I wouldn't feel comfortable trying to help you with either of them.  You could post in either or both Forums for more help.

With your private MOC, you could export a copy of your inventory after each set addition, which is also a good idea for keeping a backup.  Not the most elegant way, but a possibility.

You can have more than one private MOC.  I believe there is a maximum, but I've never had more than 3, so I'm not sure what it would be.

Perhaps someone else can suggest a better way?

But with MOC I can make my "shopping list" and with that it's easy to make orders including multiple pieces?

I don't know is it important to have headliners. Maybe just to make little bit easier to know where every piece belongs. I was wondering to make an Excel for it, but I prefer if my list is in one place. So... if I don't need headliners and I remove the piece from MOC after I got it, I think I'm ok. I don't believe that I have so many Lego sets that I wouldn't regonize where to put the new piece.

Work continues.

So, I started to find parts on Lego set 7255. Quite quickly I noticed that the General Griveous is almost totally out of the game. From Obi-Wan and Boga I'm missing parts as follows (and I will get these later hopefully):

40380c1 x2

40393 x4

I had only a few parts on General Griveous. And the question is: is there a platform where you can change parts with anothers? Like the ideal would be to give the General Griveous parts and get the legs for the Boga. :)

Thanks a lot! Your help is a big thing for me, this is very nice place.

If you see some pieces you need/want, please write me a pm. If there is some leftovers, I would like to thank you if possible.
