Brown/gray Tehcnic?

Recommended Posts

Hi! In addition to Classic space, I like to build steampunk style MOCs. I have very few technic parts and I find they are quite useful for technic builds. Unfortunately, most technic sets contain a lot of bright colors (notably red, orange and yellow) which are not very useful for stemapunk. I've looked around for technic sets in mostly black/gray/brown (or even tan) and have found nothing interesting. I know there are a lot of technic builders here on Rebrickable. Do you guys have sets to suggest fill my collection with technic parts useful to me?

I find it hard to believe you've struggled to find a mostly black Technic set!

Best bet might be to gather together some Bricklink orders and wanted lists. The pieces are out there.

I know it's pretty easy to find black technic stuff. But just black won't result in the aesthetic I'm looking for. That's why I'd love to find a set which would be mostly gray (ideally dark gray) and brown (with the usual black). I did buy individual parts off Bricklink but it would be fun to get at least some sets without half the parts being in a color I will likely not use. I'm thinking of sets with a palette like the sky pirates from last year's Ninjago but in technic.

Since I also do some classic space, I guess I could look at blue technic sets since I might also use blue stuff for other projects.

I may have found two sets that kind of fit. Unfortunately, they're not exactly current.

4481-1

8002-1

I added a Technic tag to 8002.  Nice find!

I just finished an inventory on 75100-1.  I found its lack of bright colors boring, but it might be of interest to you.  :)

I just completed inventory of thrift store 10 lb lot containing many pieces from these Bionicle sets: 3542-1, 3545-1, 4606-1, 4606-1, 4746-1, 7670-1, 7671-1, 7713-1, 8102-1, 8105-1, 8565-1, 8575-1, 8593-1, 8622-1, 8685-1, 8699-1, 8762-1, 8764-1, 8811-1, 8912-1, 8914-1, 8915-1, 8924-1, 8981-1, 9811-1; take a look at these Vokhev. Most Technic parts in the lot were black and grays; there are even some browns, dark red, dark blue and dark green. You may find a lot of Bionicle parts work well for steampunk. many of the Bionicle parts in the lot have simulated hydraulic-like cylinders on them like on 41668, 53543, 32476; and many in the lot have gear segments like on 41666 and 41667.

Yes, I have a few Bionicle (and/or Hero Factory) I got in parts lots (even a few brown parts) and the are indeed inspiring for steampunk. I'll have a look at these. Thanks.
