[medium] STUDIO IMPORT - wrong color translation

Recommended Posts

Hi,

When submitting a MOC and attempting to import parts from IO files that have submodules, the parts in the submodules are not imported.

I am using stud.io 2.0 beta, on a Windows 10 machine, and chrome.

[I realize this is probably stud.io's fault, and I am not even sure it is a bug, or just a UI issue. However I wanted to let you know, because I suspect a lot of people will be transitioning to stud.io from LDD now that it has almost all the desired functionalities in one place]

Thanks!

Hi, LegoOri,

I remember asking Nathan about a stud.io import, didn't realize he had implemented it. But there are two work-arounds, and one of them can be used to find out if this is a Rebrickable problem or a stud.io problem.

Work-around 1: in stud.io, export the model as Ldraw file, import in LEGO Digital Designer and save as .lxf. Then import the lxf into Rebrickable.

Work-around 2: In stud.io, select Model > Model Info and then press Add to Wanted List. If needed login to Bricklink. A new browser tab will open with the inventory as a Bricklink XML file within an input field. Select and copy that XML content (<INVENTORY> ... </INVENTORY>) into a text file and import that into Rebrickable using the Bricklink translation.

If you use work-around 2 and still don't get the parts in the submodules it is clearly a stud.io problem. If you use work-around 2 and you do get all the part, it is a Rebrickable import error, but, at least, you can work around it... -smile-

Take care,
Simon

Hi Simon

Thanks for the reply, and I am sorry I only saw it now. The reason I didn't pursue the matter is I went back to desgining with LDD ( Comfort zone - and also easier to design alternates because I can limit the inventory). When I have a new wholly-Stud.io design I shall definitely try your work arounds

Thanks!

I believe the stud.io importer was recently updated so maybe you don't need any workarounds anymore. But I'm not sure about that, I don't use stud.io.

I reported this issue a while back (in the admin forum) when I noticed it too, and @NathanNathan replied that he fixed it. Had something to do with the way the parts are stored in the stud.io file.

(Maybe I should have begun a new thread)

Hi, I write here to report a possibly random bug when importing parts from stud.io files (third time upon six mocs).

Sometimes, the import function goes crazy with the color of the parts.

but my BOM should be like this :

last time I submitted an alternate, I didn't encounter this problem so I thought @Nathanwas working on the code, but it's back.

I first used the file stored on bricksafe and then used my local file, the problems persists.

If you want to do some tests :

the pending  moc : https://rebrickable.com/submit/moc/MOC-20561/#step5

the corresponding io file :https://bricksafe.com/files/Berth/Alternate build/75213/75213-s13/75213-1-s13_alternate.io

the io file that worked well yesterday : https://bricksafe.com/files/Berth/Alternate build/75213/75213-s7/75231-1-s7_alternate.io

Have a nice day.

I have the same problem as Berth - I tried to upload a Stud.io file, an alternative build for the changing seasons set. It changed the color of all the pieces, an then tells me things like "these tires do not exist in blue" (I know - they are black in my file) and "these window glasses do not exist in dark pink" (I know - they are trans-clear in my design.)

This is the pending MOChttps://rebrickable.com/submit/moc/MOC-20613/#step5

@Berth - I've just tested your 75213-1-s13_alternate.io file, and I am not getting any errors, and all colors look good.

If anyone experiences this problem again: please report your Studio version and add an io file that creates error as an example.

Studio saves a single design in several files within the .io container, each for a different version of the program. Color changes between Studio versions could cause problems with RB's import functions. To be safe, use the latest Studio when possible.
