Newer Versions for Power Motors and compatiblity? (8700/8720)

Question

Hello,

I have a lot of old technic sets like 8035/8229 / ...
that I can connect to a motor like 8700 4.5V or 8720 9V.

- Are there newer models of the motor sets ???
- Are the engines 8700 and 8720 compatible with each other or do I have to get both?

thx a lot for your help

Chris

Yes. After the 9v System came the PowerFunctions (PF), with for instance the 8293-1 as a Motor Set. This is also 9V, but has a different connection. With a little soldering they can be used on the old V9 system and vice versa. This system is currently being replaced by a newer Bluetooth system called Powered Up (no Technic sets yet, but for instance the new 2018 train sets uses this system).

They are a bit different in size. Also, the 4,5 has a connection on the back of the motor, the 9 volt on the bottom, so they may not fit in all models.
