1970 Mercury Cyclone Spoiler

This is a Mercury Cyclone in the Speed Champions scale. Originally a performance and trim package for the Mercury Comet, the Cyclone became its own model in 1968, but it didn't reach its peak in both performance and ostentatious aesthetics until 1970. The utterly outlandish jet intake-styled front end of this car is completely cosmetic, but the hood scoop represents functional Ram Air induction for the 429 Cobra Jet (or Super Cobra Jet) engine.

The car's radically-shaped nose is what made me decide to build this. The radiator grill's geometry was a trick to pack into such a small space, and the chin spoiler was a unique challenge. So too were the three-pod taillights. It's difficult to fit 6 taillights in a minifig-scaled car, so I opted to use red lightsaber blades held in a unique friction fit using rubberized Technic pieces. The black interior fits a minifig and features a steering wheel, gauges, and a reclining seat.

Fair warning: this build uses multiple "illegal" techniques, such as the friction-fit taillights and er0l's smaller Speed Champions wheels technique.
