31045 Sea divider
To the contrary for the way I usually work, I started with the core. In a way it was similar to the core of the back section of the Harlequin Cruiser, but this time I wanted to expand from it and not finish with it. This proved harder than expected. Without a clear plan or design in my head I started to try different shapes, patterns and combinations. In the first rendition I just added more elements but the result was simple not looking good enough. I took it down again and decided it should not be as extensive but more compact. I focused first on what would be the head (instead of much later) so I could derive subsequent parts from there. I added some basic fins and then a tail. I was not satisfied with the fins and redid them after some thinking. While seemingly an odd construct the new version works better with the overall model. The funny thing about the model is that it has two sides (red and white) that both work on their own. So one can play with either side.
