This is a 1979 Ford Mustang in the (pre-2020, 6-wide) Speed Champions scale! I've been meaning to attempt this car for a while, and you'd think that the geometric shape would lend itself nicely to LEGO, but I actually found this to be an immensely challenging build. It's not based on any particular trim package or model because I wanted to integrate several iconic components such as the black striping, hood scoop, sunroof, rear window louvers, and spoiler. This model has an interior that seats a minifig and features a steering wheel and gauges, but three parts must be removed to access it.

Full disclosure: I have decided to make the instructions to this model FREE because I take a lot of pride in making and selling high quality, easy-to-follow instructions that provide a smooth, fun build experience. This model, however, is not particularly easy or fun to put together. It uses a couple cheeky (read: illegal) techniques and is actually a bit aggravating at times, such as inserting the flag pieces that make up part of the trim and getting the whole assembly in place without it falling apart. I've re-written these instructions twice now to make things easier and more streamlined, and it's still just not a very fun build, so I cannot bring myself to charge money for it. I am still very proud of the completed model, though, so enjoy that.

Pieces that can be any color are represented by the color yellow in the instructions. This model was designed from the start to be built in dark red, so be warned: whenever you have a lot of dark red side-by-side, you'll see a lot of color variation from piece to piece. Check my photos to see what I mean. You can view more of my builds on Flickr or here on Rebrickable!
