Mortesv's UCS Nebulon-B Medical Frigate

The purchase of these plans includes a professional grade manual totaling at 1,493 pages, the LDD files used to create the manual, an excel spreadsheet covering the 531 unique parts lot and their quantity, and a bonus LDD file that contains to scale models of fighter ships to put next to Nebulon when it is on display!

So to recap, a purchase of these plans includes the original LDD files, a 1,493 page instruction manual, an excel spreadsheet parts list, and a bonus LDD file with to-scale fighters. The final price for this awesome bundle is 50 U.S Dollars ($50).

The final MOC contains 5,728 pieces, which would make it the largest Lego Star Wars set if it were released on shelves. The ship measures about 4 feet long when completed!

One of my favorite Star Wars MOCs that I've ever seen, and a long time want on my list for potential MOCs to buy.
But after purchasing the instructions for a whooping 50 USD, and after trying to get myself to build the model in Studio for the last seven weeks, I gave up for now after 500 pages because of the poor quality.

Please note that this is just my personal opinion, but I feel that this needs to be out here for others to be aware of.

There's some major quality concerns that I was quite surprised of:
    • All steps are on a single page at the same scale = really small pictures for individual parts
    • Building steps are out of order many times, so that you cannot actually follow the instructions step by step.
    • Some parts are literally hidden from view where placed, and will sometimes only become visible again many pages later.

Also, the model design and parts list itself could use some improvement:
    • Some of the very rare parts could be replaced by mold variations with a cost saving of multiple dollars per part, without any substantial impact to looks.
    • Old dark and light grey pieces are used even for structural / internal elements where color doesn't show, but the price impact for the whole model is probably quite substantial.
    • Some of the connections of greebling or detail subassemblies seem rather flimsy while could be easily reinforced.

Just for comparison, when I look at onecase's ISD Monarch MOC:
    • 11.000 pcs (5000 more)
    • also 1.500 page instructions
    • 40 USD (10 less)
    • was able to build in Studio without much hassle within 2 weeks

I fully understand that this is a very complex MOC with all the asymmetric greebling and such, and it surely isn't an easy task breaking it down for building instructions. But still, I feel that the quality does not match the price. And while the price is good for a MOC of that size and complexity, the instructions are just not worth it.
After I contacted cjd223 about it, he announced that there will be an update to the instructions in a couple of months. So I will probably leave this project on hold until then.

Great model, but could use some major optimizations, and I would strongly recommend waiting for an update of the instructions before starting to build or collect parts, or else be prepared to put in a lot of extra work on your own.

Yes, it's difficult and yes, many parts can be changed to reduce costs, but that's the beauty of it. I've built two so far and that was kind of the exciting and interesting portion of the build. The two built came out differently and I learned a lot through doing them.

I want to buy this instructions but I can not find a way to do that, or to get in contact with the designer.
How do I proceed if I want to but the LDD file or PDF file?

      Hi Everyone,

Selling the parts for this on eBay. Model has not been built. All but 43 parts are new. Can offer a better price here without the eBay fees. US only please. PM me if you are interested.

      • 1 year, 6 months ago wbg588 Level 6
Does it include all parts? How much?
        • 1 year, 6 months ago rockpig Level 13
Yes, it includes all parts. The eBay listing under rockpig3 includes the list of all part replacements and substitutions. I can knock $250 off the price because of the fee savings if sold off of eBay. It's boxed up and ready to go.

do you sell it on ebay?
          • 1 year, 6 months ago rockpig Level 13
Just curious. How did you handle the parts with color errors?
      • 1 year, 5 months ago Darkstar77 Level 10
Why are you selling all this parts without building it?

Hello, did you sell the part or are they still available?
        • 1 year, 5 months ago rockpig Level 13

Still have the parts.  The eBay listing is under rockpig3. Can sell fit for 10% less outside of eBay. US only please. Am selling because I don't have the room to display this.

A really awesome MOC. Purchased the instructions via Amazon last year. Now, after 1 year of collecting bricks I started the build last weekend. But sometimes it is really horrible. The assembly of the technic parts of the rear is in a wrong order in the instruction I purchased. You build several pages and then you have to build it back because you are not able to place the bricks of the following steps.

Building this, up to the section for Part 64951 in Grey this is only in the UCS star destroyer none for sale, any idea how to change this up?

The bottom dark grey area's towards the front of the ship, the pictures online look different than the construction in the instructions, has this changed? Mine does not feel very sturdy and it moves around and is hard to get looking correct. The instructions have me using a bunch of 2412b Tile modified 1x2 grille with bottom groove lip.  and the whole thing is sandwiched on an axle.

Have you changed the base, how sturdy after this is built are these clear cylinders at holding this up, while assembling this I feel as it if may tip over at any time, and I am not sure i ever really will want to move it.

      Thanks again great model!

Need help!  Working on the red pod, having problems installing it.  I rebuilt the pod 3 times to make sure I did not miss anything.  What is the key.  Anyone else run into that problom?
    • 2 years, 10 months ago rockpig Level 13
Have about 85% of the parts. The last 15% are the expensive and more difficult to acquire. But I can't wait to start this build. Just have to figure out where to display it.

Hi, Azrielsc. I have just ordered the instructions for the Nebulon-B medical frigate. In the meantime, I would also like to get the plaque sticker you requested in your Eurobricks comment to Cjd223. Can you tell me where I can access it?

      Kind Regards,

      S. Walters
