"Fllying Goat" EV3 Robot
This Lego Mindstorms EV3 robot uses the parts from the retail 31313 "Home Edition" set, plus extra 5x7 Technic Liftarm frames for the perimeter bumper. It utilizes many of the innovations of Ray McNamara's FLL-Bot ( www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/29236130584/in/album-7... ), but it uses different wheels/tires (Parts 32019 + 32020 -- www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=32019#T=C and www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=32020#T=C ) for greater ground clearance. A rear caster wheel rolls over obstacles and debris. The two attachments shown are a reversible forklift and front scoop with an operational hook to pull Loops in a FIRST Lego League (FLL) robot game. The front EV3 Color Sensor is set at 1-1/2 studs above the mat for Line Following (while maintaining good ground clearance), and the side-facing EV3 Ultrasonic Sensor can be used for Wall Following. If you have a second EV3 Color Sensor, it could be mounted on the other side to make a pair. There is a central EV3 Medium Motor to power the "dog gear" that meshes with the "Knob Wheels" in the attachments. If you have an extra EV3 Large Motor (shown in purple on top of the robot), they can be mounted to the sides of the EV3 Brick for flexibility. Two blue Technic Pins on the sides (between the 5x7 perimeter frames, by the wheel) allow for mounting of outwards-facing attachments.
