NextGen SCANIA truck

It’s finally here! 20 years since last time Scania made a completely new truck. The Next Generation Scania is what I wanted to build, so I did! I was hoping to be the first in the world to make this Next Generations Scania out of lego, and I think I am!
https://www.scania.com/group/en/first-lego-new-generation-scania/
This is my first lego model with realistic steering, called Ackermann steering!
Also, the headlamps are made just like on the real truck, with the light source coming from the side, and this makes the whole light assembly lit up!

The instructions are high quality and computer generated. It took me almost four weeks to make the instructions as good as I wanted them to be.

Very nice. I love that people continue to build on it since that was my goal. :D

did not you have problems with driving? at rattled the gears from the drive.have now xl motor directly s.der differential connected. now no longer a problem. and the front axle was very unstable. rebuilt a bit, and now it works. just build a trailer for this. Image follows.

I don't have any problems with the drive at all. Works very well and no rattling. The steering is not as sharp as I would like but that is a compromise since I wanted more ground clearance for a more realistic look. It's easy to move the servo motor just as you did tho, but the gear rack for the steering removes another function. The beam I have in the instructions for steering is not parallel to the front beam when steering, which is intentional since it gives the wheels different turning radius depending on which is inner or outer. Again, this is for improved realism. Thanks for your pictures! I bet someone else will probably find them useful too. :)

everything okay. with the xl directly on the diff, it is now better. the servo is now very far down, I have to turn again. hovering 1 mm above the ground. but for now it is great. drives well and can be steered super. what i still miss in my collection is a volvo tractor. Unfortunately I'm not able to create something like that on the designer. Maybe I'll get lucky, and it builds one

I know a guy named Dgustafsson13 on youtube, and he made a great looking volvo truck! I believe he sells instructions as well. :)

    Any trailer too Sir?
    • 2 years, 1 month ago ThinkCleverAndSmart Level 10 Designed this MOC
I don't currently have a trailer for this model, but the truck is ready for use with trailer. The fifth wheel has a built in locking mechanism for a trailer. :)

Nice video! But any functions besides drive?
    • 3 years, 2 months ago ThinkCleverAndSmart Level 10 Designed this MOC
I wanted it to be looking as realistic as possible, while still implementing the RC function. Sadly, this meant that a working steering wheel had to go, and tilting cab too. But I hope you still think it looks good, because that's my goal. Also, the fifth wheel is working, it has ackermann steering, and it's easy to add lights in a realistic way. :)

It looks like any other Scania from last 3 generations. Do you have some sample pages from the instructions?
    • 3 years, 2 months ago ThinkCleverAndSmart Level 10 Designed this MOC
I will post some shortly on my website. (click the "Buy moc building instructions" and you will come to the website). :)

I think that they need some editing, because they look like taken straight from MLCad, without formating. You know, some changes with scale of the parts, distance between steps, background maybe?
        • 3 years, 2 months ago ThinkCleverAndSmart Level 10 Designed this MOC
I'm sorry if you don't like it, but I used a program called Blueprint, and It's in beta. It doesn't have any function to set a background, or scaling some of the parts. I worked really hard four weeks straight and I'm really happy with the result. If you are not, you don't have to buy it. :/

Well, I am also offering instructions, but they look like this:

What program did you use to make these?
              • 3 years, 2 months ago M_longer Level 14 MOC Designer DESIGNER
MLCad for making model, Lpub for creating instructions. They are all in "All in one LDraw" installer :)
                • 3 years, 2 months ago ThinkCleverAndSmart Level 10 Designed this MOC
I tried those, but I had a hard time finding the pieces from my model when making the instructions. Blueprint, which I used made it really easy to find those. But it still took me 4 weeks to make. :/
                  • 3 years, 2 months ago M_longer Level 14 MOC Designer DESIGNER
I am using LDD for making submodels. I do not have time and patience to pick every piece one by one on MLCad :) Then I export each submodel to MLCad format (and add pieces that like to vanish after exporting), and then I make steps in the main file.

That seems very time consuming. Especially for a model this size. Have you tried Blueprint? It's easy to use, but it's in Beta, so it's not finished yet. I still think it's superior when considering the amount of time and how easy it is to learn how to use it. :)
                      • 3 years, 2 months ago M_longer Level 14 MOC Designer DESIGNER
I have spent hundreds of hours on improving my LDraw building skills, so I am not interested on learning something new from basics :)

Well, that's understandable. Same here. I like this program, so that's what I'm going to use. I'm in contact with the creator too, so hopefully, he can add a customisable background soon. :)

Another one to my building list that's for sure! Love the detail and work you putted into this truck especially the instructions. Cant wait to see some trailers (or hopefully)!
    • 3 years, 2 months ago ThinkCleverAndSmart Level 10 Designed this MOC
Thank you very much! I am considering making a trailer, or two! :D
