Elephant, Alternate of 31058 Mighty Dinosaurs

I've already seen other elephant alternates from this set, but I thought this could be done better, and well... this is now my own, completely new version of it.

Update: I have created PDF instructions now.

Awesome MOC! Built for my Son to play with, he's added wings... Because elephants now fly!

Very tricky bit on the head that left me wondering was the "floating" 2 stud plate. However, reading a bit further into the instructions made it clear that it gets locked in place later. So that wasn't so bad.
Great, clean and good looking build, nicely done!

Build this a few days ago, loved it. A really nice addition to the original building instructions, can't wait to let my nephew build this too.

I made this yesterday and it was a lot of fun :-) It's an excellent design; the round pieces work really well for the ears.
Step 10.6 in the instructions cheats a bit, by hovering a brick over those round pieces, but I was able to ignore that bit and then come back to it in step 10.9 when it's finally attached with studs.
The head is a bit top-heavy for the single ball joint but that doesn't diminish how cute this model looks. :-)

Thank you for the feedback. I'm glad you like it. Yes that's true about the cheat in the instructions. I didn't know how to make subassemblies of subassemblies in LDraw when I created the instructions, so I had to cheat a bit.

Really cool elephant! It looks likes an official build option.

Thanks for this nice work! I like the compact instructions and surprisingly, they were easier to follow for my son than official LEGO ones. Except for the head. That was too tricky.

Thank you! Yes, I would do the instructions for the head different now. I've learned a lot about making instructions since then.

Maybe I will rework the instructions at some point, but I'm still waiting for one part which is missing in LDraw (74261).

Ok, I built the elephant! Overall I like the design and think it could be an official model. I especially like the ear shape and the use of the side panels on the body. It's great that it has a lot of ways to adjust the pose for example in the trunk, neck, and tail.

I found the build instructions in the digital designer to be a little tricky because many steps require you to go back and take pieces off to slip in the next part in the sequence, but overall I was able to do it without much trouble.

I was wondering, how did you get the images above? They are very clear and blend some of the pieces together to make it look very smooth. Is it from another program? Thanks.

Thanks for the detailed comment! Glad you like it :)

Yep, LDD automatic instructions aren't very good. I would like to provide better instructions, but unfortunately my computer can't install the Blueprint software. Maybe I should look for other options.

The images were rendered with Bluerender. It's a known limitation of this renderer that same colored parts blend together. But because of this it's also faster than other renderers.

Very good model. Excellent ratio of small bricks (details) and overall look.
