Thnx. It took some time before I decided to have a go at trying alternates with this set. The first few models were okay but after that things started to improve and my opinion changed. It is just about finding the right approach and getting to know the parts. I already have a bunch ready for the next batch and it doesn't seem inspiration is failing yet.

That time doesn't include building the model in the LDD which can be 15-45 minutes depending on the size. I haven't kept track of the exact time but it is a rare thing for me to spend several hours on just constructing an alternate model.
It is impressive how many here spend time on wonderful instructions and pictures, but I build Lego models to spend less time in front of a monitor, not more, so I won't go further than that.

I'm not claiming Lego is cheap, but for some unknown reason some of the Designer Sets were cheap enough that I could buy two of them. Storage space is certainly an issue, so I'm very picky on what I buy as well. Working on alternates allow me to keep busy without spending :-).
You still seem productive enough despite your lack of time :0. Depending on the size I spend like 30-60 minutes on average on a model and I've gotten more efficient on the LDD as well.

A picture only tells that much. As you own the set, you can actually build these alternates yourself :-)

Thnx, although I don't consider my models to be that special. I've seen quite some amazing alternates models. That said, none of my previous alternates made you want to get those Designer Sets? They are rather cheap and very good for building creativity. It's only because I am sort of out of sets (keeping one for another time though) that I like and own, that I've moved on to the Creator series.
